AFRICA CUP

The Africa Cup is the Premier Senior Competition in CAR. It has been divided into 2 Pools, North & South. Each pool will have two groups A and B

The 2007 Africa Cup format has been devised in such a manner that the players of the stronger rugby nations in Africa get the necessary high level competitive exposure, so that their own playing standards and that of their National teams could be improved, in order to prepare them to participate against the Tier 3 and 2 rugby playing Nations in future.

The Preliminary group matches will be played as follows:

Teams in each group will play each other in a round robbin format (total three games per group)

Africa CUP Tournament Final july 23_28

The winner of each group will play in the Africa Cup tournament where the Africa Cup winner will be determined. The four teams will meet in one venue. One of the four finalists will host the CAR final. This will be determined by the CAR executive at the time.

The format for final will be as follows:

  1. The winner of North group A will play the winner of South Group B
  2. The winner of North B will play the winner of South A
  3. The losers of matches 1 and 2 will play in a player off to determine the 3rd and 4th position.
  4. The winner of match 1 and 2 will play in the final.

CASTEL BEER CUP

The tournament will be played in two pools North and South. Each Pool has two Groups. Tournaments will be organised in Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Botswana, Rwanda

North Pool

Group A: Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad
Hosted by Burkina Faso on June 18 – 23

Group B: Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Ghana
Hosted by Nigeria venue and date advise

South Pool

Group A: Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, Mayotte
Hosted by Rwanda on –june—18-23

Group B: Mauritius, Reunion, Botswana, Swaziland
Hosted by Botswana on-july 9—-14

2 Finals

Final North between winner North A and winner North B to be played end of mid august.
Final South between winner South A and winner South B to be played end of 11 august

CAR U/18 MAIN TOURNAMENT

(Kampala, Uganda) Proposed month June –20 to 28th

In 2007 South Africa will not participate in this tournament.

This tournament is used to determine a qualifier for the IRB U/19 World Championships the next year, the U/18 Tournament has been reduced to include only the 8 strongest teams, based on the 2006 log standing.

Group A will comprise of the top 4 teams. The winner of Group A will qualify for the 2008 U/19 World Championship. The one ending last in Group A will be relegated to Group B in the 2008 CAR U/18 tournament.

Namibia, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Tunisia

Group B will comprise of the next 4 top teams. The winner of Group B, based on final log standing in the group, will be the winner and will be promoted to the Group A of the CAR Tournament during 2008.

Kenya, Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire, Madagascar.

The duration of the tournament will be 7 days, as teams will arrive on a Sunday and play the Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and depart on Sunday. Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be rest days and will also be used for training sessions with teams, coaches and match officials.

CAR U/18 DEVELOPMENT TOURNAMENT

The CAR U/18 development tournament will be played on a zonal basis, to cut cost countries closest to each other have been grouped into one zone.

All countries not participating in the CAR U/18 tournament and having a viable U/18 National team, have been included in the zonal tournaments. The tournaments will comprise of 4 teams and the duration of the tournament will be 7 days.

Tournaments will be organised in Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Zambia, Botswana

Others

Rwanda and Burundi play on a home and away basis against each other.
Dates to be determined by the Unions later.

CAR SEVENS RUGBY CIRCUITS

CAR will have two circuits, one in the north and one in the south.

SEVENS RUGBY

(Nairobi, Kenya and Tangiers, Morocco)

Sevens Rugby in Africa is a great equaliser and can contribute greatly to the growth of the Game in Africa. This can also contribute to African Governments agreeing to acknowledge Rugby as a medal winning sport at the 4 yearly African Games, which is an important step to get it acknowledged by the Olympic Committees of the respective Countries.

The Kenya Safari Sevens June 8th-10th

Teams

South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Namibia, Morocco, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Zambia, Tunisia

The tournament will be held in June 2007

The Tangier Sevens

The tournament will be held in may 11-12 2007.

Teams

Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa.

The Mosi Sevens (Zambia) June 2nd

The tournament will be held in June 2007

Teams from the Southern Africa that will not have a chance to participate in in Safari sevens will be encouraged to participate in the Mosi sevens. CAR will partially support this tournament financially.

CAR WOMEN’S SEVENS RUGBY TOURNAMENTS:

Women’s Rugby should be promoted and further developed by the Unions and CAR.

CAR will host a Seven Nations Women 7’s Rugby Tournament in Kampala, Uganda and Tunis, Tunisia. Countries with the best developed Women’s Rugby systems and strongest teams will play in the two tournaments.

This will create more competitive and high performance opportunities for those countries and players, who are really investing in the growth and development of Women’s rugby.

Kampala : Dates——-
Teams: Uganda, South Africa, Kenya, Rwanda, Zambia, Burundi, Zimbabwe, Tunisia. Strong SA Provincial Women’s Ruby Teams like that of EP, WP and Blue Bulls will be invited.

Tunis : Dates March 09-10
Teams: Tunisia, Morocco, Cote d’ Ivoire, Uganda and South Africa. Some teams from Europe could be invited to beef up the tournament

The other countries with women’s teams are encouraged to play within their respective zones against neighbouring countries with national women’s 7’s teams, as well as national women’s XV’s teams where possible.
